Time tracking for steel door and metalwork shops

A steel garage door, a railing or a made-to-measure grille has a workshop part and a site part. The hours from both have to end up on the same order, and on paper sheets they easily go missing on the way.

Made to measure, order by order

A shop that makes steel garage doors and industrial doors, railings, grilles or iron staircases works to measure almost every time. Each order has its own sizes, its own finish and its own planned time, and goes through cutting, welding, finishing and installation.

Knowing how many hours it really took is what tells you whether the price was right.

Sections in the workshop and on site

Cutting and preparation
Cutting section, tube and sheet, and preparing the parts.
Welding and fit-up
The frame of the door, the railing or the grille.
Finishing
Dressing the welds, priming or painting, if done in the shop.
Installation
Fitting at the customer’s premises, with its own hours and date.

With the detailed entry, each operator picks customer, order, section and hours without a keyboard, from the shop’s touchscreen kiosk or from a phone. What clocking in looks like.

Installation hours, on their order

Installation hours are easy to lose: they are worked away from the shop, often at the end of the day, and end up written down from memory or not at all. Because the detailed entry includes the date, they are booked to the order and to the installation section with the day they were worked.

And the guard rail still applies: nobody can log more hours than they worked.

Comparing with the planned time

If the orders and planned times are in the ERP, Vexyon reads them read only and, with every entry, compares the actual hours on each door or railing with its planned time. If there is no ERP, you start by adding customers and orders from the panel. How to read the variance.

Drawings and sketches

Each order’s drawings and sketches are uploaded by hand in the panel, by customer, by order or by order and section, and read right there. At section level they carry a status: done, in progress or pending.
