Time tracking for metal fabrication and structural steelwork
A steel structure or a tank can spend weeks in the shop and pass through half the workforce. If hours are written on paper, the overrun on a job like that only shows once it is finished.
Long jobs, many hands
In plate work and structural steel, a single order can last weeks and build up hours of cutting, forming, welding, assembly and finishing, put in by different people on different days. Adding them up from sheets at month end is slow, and the answer arrives late.
With Vexyon, every entry is added to the order the moment it is made, and the comparison with planned time keeps updating for the whole job.
Typical sections
- Cutting
- Saw, oxy-fuel, plasma or laser, depending on the shop.
- Forming
- Bending and rolling of plate and section.
- Welding
- Fit-up and welding of the assemblies.
- Assembly
- Shop assembly and preparation for dispatch.
- Finishing
- Shot blasting, priming or painting, if done in house.
They are a starting point, not a template: the sections are those of your own process.
Seeing the overrun halfway through
An example: if a structure has 300 planned hours and 220 have been logged with the job half done, it is better to know that day than when the job is closed. In the panel, the order’s actual hours are compared with its planned time on every entry, and the hours by section say where the time went.
How the comparison between actual hours and planned time works.
Hours away from the workshop
When part of the work is done on site, the detailed entry lets those hours be booked to their order, under a site assembly section and with the date they were worked. The screen can be the shop’s touchscreen kiosk or each operator’s phone.
Drawings by order and section
Each job’s drawings are uploaded by hand in the panel, by customer, by order or by order and section, and read right there. At section level they carry a status: done, in progress or pending.
Getting started
You can start without an ERP, with the jobs added in the panel, or connected to the ERP read only so that orders and planned times arrive on their own. How the ERP integration works.
