Vexyon with Odoo: the shop floor clocks in, Odoo stays the ERP
Odoo keeps its data in PostgreSQL, one of the engines Vexyon is prepared for. It is the ERP the connection has been tested with, which is why it is the only one we describe by name.
Who does what
Odoo stays the ERP: customers and orders live there and, if you use it for manufacturing, so do the planned times. You carry on working in it as before.
Vexyon takes care of what happens at the machine: logging hours by order and section, the comparison with planned time, and the history of hours. Between the two there is a read-only connection: Vexyon reads from Odoo and never writes to it.
How it connects
Access to PostgreSQL
Vexyon connects straight to Odoo’s PostgreSQL database, with the host and user you give it. A read-only user is all it needs.
Table and column mapping
You configure which tables and columns hold customers, orders and planned times. That depends on how your Odoo is set up, which is why it is done on your own data.
Syncing
At the interval you choose, or with a button, Vexyon refreshes the catalogue. The clock-in dropdowns show Odoo’s customers and active orders.
Comparison
Every entry instantly recalculates the order’s actual hours against its planned time. How to read the variance.
What it needs in order to work
The connection goes straight to the database, and that comes with one condition: the server Vexyon runs on must be able to reach Odoo’s PostgreSQL with a read user. That is the usual case when Odoo is installed on your own server.
On hosting where direct access to the database is not given, this connection is not possible. Vexyon then works in standalone mode, with customers and orders added from its own panel.
What Vexyon adds
- Clocking designed for the machine: a Clock-in button, or customer, order, section, hours and date picked without a keyboard, from a touchscreen kiosk or a phone. What clocking in looks like.
- A guard rail: nobody can log more hours than they worked.
- The comparison between actual hours and planned time, recalculated with every entry.
- A history of its own: if an order disappears from Odoo, its hours are still in Vexyon.
- Reports filtered by date, which come out the same every time they are downloaded.
Frequently asked questions
Does Vexyon write to Odoo?
No. The connection is read only. Entries are stored in Vexyon and Odoo receives no changes.
Can the demo run on my own Odoo data?
Yes. The demo can run connected to a copy of your database, so you see the mapping and the clocking with your own customers and orders.
What if my Odoo gives no access to the database?
Vexyon still works in standalone mode: customers and orders are added from the panel. If the connection becomes possible later, it is added without losing a single entry. How the integration works in general.
